Treacherous Three was a pioneering American hip hop group from the Bronx, New York. The group was formed in 1978 and consisted of Kool Moe Dee, L.A. Sunshine and Special K. The group released a number of singles on the Enjoy label, before signing to Sugar Hill Records. By 1985, the group was becoming overshadowed by other groups, and L.A. Sunshine was getting increasingly frustrated with their financial situation on Sugar Hill. During this time, many of the groups on the label were put on suspension, and Special K and L.A. Sunshine decided they did not want to make any more records for Sugar Hill. Kool Moe Dee was the only rapper in the group that was still actively working for the label, writing lyrics for The Sugarhill Gang. This led to the rise of Kool Moe Dee's solo career, and the break-up of the group.

Kool Moe Dee released a number of solo albums, before the group decided to work together again. They signed to their DJ Easy Lee's label Wrap Record to release the album Old School Flava in 1994. The album was not well-received, and the group permanently split up a short time later.
