West Coast Resurrection (2005)

The Documentary is the debut major-label studio album by American rapper The Game, released in 2005 on Aftermath Entertainment, G-Unit Records and Interscope Records. After recoving from a near-fatal shooting in 2001, The Game began pursuing a career rapping, and was later discovered by Dr. Dre, who signed him to his Aftermath label. The album features a star-studded line-up of producers, such as Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Havoc, Just Blaze, Scott Storch and Timbaland, among others. The album features several prominent guest appearances, including 50 Cent, Eminem, Nate Dogg and Faith Evans. This would be The Game's only album on Aftermath and G-Unit, as he left the label after he had a falling out with labelmate 50 Cent.

The Documentary debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, selling 586,000 copies in its first week. Upon its release, the album received generally positive reviews, with critics praising the album's production, but The Game's lyrics garnered a mixed reception. Since its release, The Game and this album in particular have been credited as a driving force in reviving the West Coast hip hop scene, which had been overshadowed by artists from the East, Midwest and South during the early 2000s. In 2005, the RIAA certified the album two times platinum and it has since sold over five million copies worldwide. It remains as The Game's best-selling album to date. In 2015, The Game released a sequel to the album, titled The Documentary 2.
