Salaam Remi is an American record producer from Queens, New York. He is known for his work with Nas, Amy Winehouse, Fergie, Estelle and Miguel, and for his reggae-tinged and often experimental style of production. Remi made his debut in 1986 by playing keyboards on the Kurtis Blow album Kingdom Blow, and had his first full production credit in 1992 by producing for the group Zhigge. He achieved international success when he produced the chart-topping song "Here Comes the Hotstepper" by Jamaican reggae artist Ini Kamoze in 1994, and achieved a similar amount of success when he produced the song "Fu-Gee-La" by Fugees two years later.
Remi first produced for Nas on the song "What Goes Around" from his 2001 album Stillmatic. Remi later become Nas' main producer for his two next albums, God's Son and Street's Disciple. Remi has been attributed for a resurgence of Nas' popularity by producing the successful singles "Made You Look" and "I Can". Remi has produced over 300 songs as of 2015.[1]
