William Michael Griffin Jr. (born 28 January 1968), better known by his stage name Rakim, is an American rapper. One half of the influential golden age hip hop duo Eric B. & Rakim, he is widely regarded as one of the most skilled and one of the greatest MCs of all time. After the dissolution of the duo in 1993, Rakim released his debut solo album The 18th Letter in 1997.

Eric B. & Rakim's 1987 album Paid in Full was named the greatest hip hop album of all time by MTV in 2006. About.com and The Source have both placed him at #1 on their list of the greatest MCs of all time.
