Poor Righteous Teachers is an American hip hop group from Trenton, New Jersey. The group was founded in 1989, and consisted of lead MC Wise Intelligent, backing vocalist and producer Culture Freedom, and DJ and producer Father Shaheed. Poor Righteous Teachers is known as a pro-Black conscious hip hop group, with musical content inspired by the teachings of the Nation of Gods and Earth.

The trio released their debut album, Holy Intellect, in 1990, amid a number of similarly pro-Black albums such as Fear of a Black Planet by Public EnemyTo the East, Blackwards by X-Clan and One for All by Brand Nubian. While not as commercially successful as these albums, Holy Intellect received critical acclaim and spawned the group's only major radio hit "Rock Dis Funky Joint". The group returned in 1991 with its second album, Pure Poverty, which was not as commercially successful or critically acclaimed as their debut. The group's third album, Black Business, was released in 1993, and was a critical success but received limited commercial success. After a three-year hiatus, the group returned with its fourth album, The New World Order, which received little attention.

Poor Righteous Teachers released a number of singles in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but none made much of an impact. On 26 May 2014, member Father Shaheed was killed in a motorcycle accident.
