Moment of Truth is the fifth studio album by American hip hop duo Gang Starr, released in March 31, 1998 on Noo Trybe Records. Recording sessions mostly took place at D&D Studios during May 1997 to January 1998. Production was completely handled by DJ Premier. Released four years after their previous album, Hard to Earn, this album could be perceived as a comeback, with a newer, updated style of the group's already-established jazz-tinged hip hop. It features more guest artists than previous Gang Starr releases, including appearances by Inspectah Deck, Scarface, Freddie Foxxx, M.O.P., Krumb Snatcha, G. Dep, K-Ci & Jojo, Hannibal Stax, Big Shug and Shiggy Sha.
The album is the group's most commercially successful album to date. Moment of Truth debuted at#6 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It went on to sell over 500,000 copies and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on May 7, 1998. Moment of Truth released the singles: "You Know My Steez" (which peaking at #76 on the Billboard Hot 100, #15 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and #5 on the Hot Rap Singles chart), "The Militia" (which reached #19 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and #7 on the Hot Rap Singles chart) and "Royalty".
