Marlon Williams (born 30 September 1962), better known by his stage name Marley Marl, is an American DJ and record producer, who is considered one of the most important and influential producers in the history of hip hop. He first rose to prominence as the leader of the supergroup Juice Crew. Marley Marl produced the majority of the member's debut albums, including Long Live the Kane by Big Daddy Kane, Goin' Off by Biz Markie, Road to the Riches by Kool G Rap & DJ Polo and Take a Look Around by Masta Ace. Around the time of the releases of these albums, Marley Marl released his own album, In Control, Volume 1, which featured members of the Juice Crew and was moderately successful. The Juice Crew slowly disassembled in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and Marley Marl would stop producing for the members.
