Lyte as a Rock is the debut studio album by American rapper MC Lyte, released in September 13, 1988 on First Priority Music and Atlantic Records. Recording sessions took place at I.N.S. Studios, Such-A-Sound Studio and First Priority Lab in New York City from August 1987 to April 1988. The album was produced by labelmates Audio Two, Alliance, King of Chill and Prince Paul.
The album was not as commercially successful as Lyte's later albums, only reaching #50 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. However, the album received critical acclaim, and spawned a successful single in the form of "Paper Thin".
