John Barnes III, better known by his stage name L.A. Jay, is an American record producer and DJ from Los Angeles, California. He made his debut in 1989, when he produced songs on MC Trouble's sole album Gotta Get a Grip. The following year, he worked with R&B artists Vanessa Williams and Tony! Toni! Toné!. In 1992, he achieved his greatest success when he produced "Otha Fish" by hip hop group The Pharcyde from their critically acclaimed Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde. In the mid-1990s, he produced songs for Hi-C, Brian Green, The Roots and Kwest tha Madd Lad.
L.A. Jay currently tours as a member of Bizarre Ride Live, alongside former Pharcyde members Slimkid3 and Fatlip, and producer J-Swift.
