Jazz rap is a sub-genre of hip hop music that incorporates jazz influences, developed in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The lyrics are often based on political consciousness, Afrocentrism, and general positivism. A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, and other artists affiliated with the Native Tongues movement are considered to be pioneers of the jazz rap genre.
