Erik Francis Schrody (born 18 August 1969), better known by his stage name Everlast, is an American rapper and singer, known for his solo hit "What It's Like" and as the frontman for hip hop group House of Pain. He was also a part of the supergroups Rhyme Syndicate and La Coka Nostra. In 2000, he won a Grammy for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal with Latin Rock musician Carlos Santana for "Put Your Lights On".

First emerging as a member of Rhyme Syndicate, Everlast released his debut album, Forever Everlasting, in 1990 to a disappointing commercial reception. Following its failure, Everlast teamed up with DJ Lethal and high school friend Danny Boy to form House of Pain. Their 1992 eponymous debut album went multi-platinum, spawning the successful DJ Muggs-produced single "Jump Around". Fashioning themselves as rowdy Irish American hooligans, they toured with various hip hop and alternative rock bands, such as The Ramones, Beastie Boys and Rage Against the Machine after their breakthrough. After releasing two additional albums, the group split up in 1996 and Everlast once again pursued a solo career.

His second solo album, Whitey Ford Sings the Blues, was released in 1998 and was both a commercial and critical success. It was praised for its blend of rap with acoustic and electric guitars. Despite its success, Everlast's 2000 follow-up album, Eat at Whitey's, did not have the same amount of commercial success, but still received praise from critics. After a four-year pause, Everlast released White Trash Beautiful in 2004 to a more mediocre reception. It was his last album to feature noticeable hip hop elements, as his next two albums, Love, War and the Ghost of Whitey Ford and Songs of the Ungrateful Living, were solely alternative rock albums.
