Jeffrey Andrew Fortson (born 27 September 1966), better known by his stage name Def Jef, is an American rapper and record producer from New York City, New York. He moved to Los Angeles, California in the late-1980s and signed with Delicious Vinyl, on which he released the albums Just a Poet with Soul in 1989 and Soul Food in 1991.

After his second album, Def Jef moved into record production full-time, and has produced for Shaquille O'Neal, Bo$$, Snoop Dogg, Tha Eastsidaz, and Nas
