9 Lives is the third studio album by American rapper AZ. It was released on June 12, 2001 via Motown Records. AZ got signed to Motown in 1999 after he got dropped from his previous label Noo Trybe Records. Recording sessions took place at West Lake Studios in Los Angeles, Sweet Mountain Studios and Playground Mini-Mansion in New Jersey and at Right Trax and Power Plant Studios in New York City through July 1999 to May 2000. Production was handled by Qu'ran Goodman, Big Shy, C.H.O.P. D.I.E.S.E.L, Derryck "Tank" Thornton, DJ Eddie F, Darren Lighty, DR Period, Mohogany, Miller Time, Tydro, Ty Fyffe and Bink!. It features guest appearances from Foxy Brown, Beanie Sigel, Amil, Joe and Ali Vegas.
9 Lives peaked at #23 on the US Billboard 200 and #4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts in the United States. 9 Lives released the singles: "Everything's Everything", "AZ's Back" and "Problems" (which reached #34 on the Hot Rap Singles chart).
